Hero Perks: Therapy Discounts for NHS Staff and NHS Retirees

The people who work in the NHS spend their days looking after others. Often, that leaves little time or energy to look after themselves. That is why I am proud that Meadows Therapy is part of HeroPerks, and I am pleased to confirm that the discount is available to both serving and retired NHS staff.

What is HeroPerks?

HeroPerks is an Employee Assistance Programme that provides discounts and offers for the people working in our emergency services and the NHS. By partnering with local independent businesses, it helps support the wellbeing of those who dedicate their lives to supporting others.

What is included?

The offer at Meadows Therapy includes:

  • A free initial consultation to explore how therapy can help
  • Discounted psychotherapy or hypnotherapy sessions
  • Sessions at £56 each, rather than the standard fee of £70

Who can use it?

The offer is for serving and retired NHS staff in Hertfordshire. When you book, simply let me know that you work for, or have retired from, the NHS in Hertfordshire and would like to use the HeroPerks discount. You can find full details on the HeroPerks page.

Why retirees are included

Retirement is often imagined as a straightforward reward after years of hard work. For many people it is, but it can also be a time of real adjustment. Leaving a role that has given you purpose, routine and colleagues can bring unexpected feelings of loss or uncertainty.

Those who have spent years in healthcare may also carry memories of difficult experiences at work. Sometimes these only come to the surface once life slows down. Your years of service do not stop mattering when you retire, and neither does your wellbeing.

The pressures of working in the NHS

NHS staff can face long shifts, heavy workloads and emotionally demanding situations. Many become so used to being the person who copes that it can feel hard to ask for help. If you have been telling yourself that other people have it worse, or that you should just keep going, you are certainly not alone.

Therapy offers a space where you do not have to be the strong one. It is a private place to put things down for a while, to make sense of what you have been through and to find ways of feeling more like yourself.

How therapy can help

People come to me for support with many different difficulties, including stress, anxiety, low mood, sleep, relationships and the effects of traumatic experiences. My approach is tailored to you, and can combine psychotherapy and hypnotherapy. I am also EMDR qualified, and may use EMDR techniques within your sessions where appropriate.

I know that shift patterns can make regular appointments difficult, so it is worth asking me what might work for you. You can see me in person in St Albans or online by secure video call, which may make it easier to fit sessions around your commitments.

Confidential support

If you are worried about colleagues finding out, please be reassured that I work with my clients on a confidential basis. There are limited exceptions, such as where there is a serious risk of harm or a legal requirement, and I will explain these clearly when we begin.

How to get started

All you need to do is get in touch and mention HeroPerks. We will arrange a free initial consultation, so that you can ask any questions and see whether I am the right therapist for you. There is no pressure to continue.

You have spent a great deal of your working life caring for others. It is more than okay to let someone support you for a change.
